Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,
The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District administration was notified administration was notified that a staff member at East Brookfield Elementary School was recently exposed to an individual who has since tested positive for COVID-19. The reported exposure occurred off school grounds.
Through our contact tracing protocol, we have identified and notified all families whose students have had close contact with the individual who was potentially exposed. Please note that it has not been confirmed whether this person actually has COVID-19. Rather, we simply know they were around someone who has tested positive.
Per our protocol, the staff member who was possibly exposed will quarantine for at least 14 days and will not come to school during this period. They may return after 14 days as long as they have not developed any symptoms. It’s also possible this person could return to school before the 14-day period is up if they take a COVID-19 test with negative results.
We cannot share further details at this time due to our need to protect confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
Primary symptoms of COVID-19 include shortness of breath, coughing, and fever or chills. Other symptoms include congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches, and loss of taste or smell. If anyone in your home begins to demonstrate any of the symptoms listed above, we ask that you please keep your child home and consult your primary care physician. As well, please contact your school office if you begin to experience symptoms.

We are following sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect your health. We also want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of wearing masks, staying six feet apart from others, and regularly washing your hands.
