This recognition celebrates their exemplary commitment to early education and care—especially their generous support of WCAC’s Head Start program in East Brookfield, providing space and meals in kind. Their partnership has helped us reach more families and build brighter futures for young learners.

"We are delighted and overwhelmed as a regional school district to be recognized and honored to have been selected as the 2025 Stephen Desmarais Champion for Kids Award recipient. This award from the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) speaks to the hard work and due diligence of our district's "Cubs Corner Preschool" program. The Cubs Corner Preschool has come to be known as one of the best preschools/early education and care programs in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The goal of our Cubs Corner preschool program is to have our district's students begin their schooling kindergarten-ready, and that does not happen overnight. It takes a village - everyone from our school committee and leadership team, faculty and staff, to our community-at-large and their commitment to early education and care," said Superintendent of Schools Paul Haughey.

"WCAC has been integral in the work with us every step of the way for the good of our young early learners and their parents/families through the Head Start program, housed at the East Brookfield Elementary School," Haughey added. "And we as a district would not be in line for such recognition if not for our continued support and partnership of one another... On behalf of all of us within the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District, we cannot thank WCAC enough for all that they do for us and with us."
