April 14th, 2025 - It's time to recognize another high-achieving student in Central Massachusetts.
There are four strong nominees for the latest Telegram & Gazette Student of the Week.
The T&G asked high school principals, teachers, and guidance counselors to nominate students they say have shown outstanding school achievement and community service.

Payton Mailea, Burncoat High School: Payton, a senior, is a standout student-athlete who excels both in and out of the classroom. As the vice president of the National Honor Society, an active member of the Legacy Club, and a dedicated athlete in track and soccer, she demonstrates exceptional leadership, work ethic and commitment to her community. With aspirations to pursue a career in nursing, Payton is always willing to help others and goes above and beyond to support her peers. Payton leads the Burncoat community by example and embodies the Patriot Way through her dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to helping others succeed.
Luka Maucher, Clinton High School: Luka, a sophomore, has shown commendable dedication to his academics this year through consistent effort and a positive mindset that has resulted in improved grades. His teachers have noticed his focus and motivation when facing challenges, while his positive presence contributes to our school community at CHS. Congratulations to Luka on this well-deserved recognition.
Matthew McNicol, David Prouty High School: Matthew is a junior at David Prouty and secretary of the Class of 2026. He is a high honors student with a strong work ethic and a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. Matthew is a three-sport athlete, a member of the David Prouty Concert and Jazz bands, and part of the backstage crew for school musicals. He is very involved with the community. He is an active altar server at his parish, previously being a Project 351 service ambassador, and amassing many community service hours throughout his time at Prouty. Matthew was chosen as a recipient for the 18 under 18 Award. This award highlights individuals who display community involvement, work ethic, leadership, caring, and selflessness. After high school, he plans to study biology/health sciences at a four-year college.
Niyana Ramos, Tantasqua Regional Vocational High School: Niyana, a senior, is a student in the electrical program. She is an excellent student, most recently winning a gold medal at the district level, where she competed against students from five high schools. She won the same competition with a gold medal last year and went on to states. She is an excellent student and deserves some recognition for all of her hard work.
