“Without education, your children can never really meet the challenges they will face. So it’s very important to give children education and explain that they should play a role for their country.” - Nelson Mandela

Six more weeks of Winter but 85 more days of school! This new year has been filled with so many outstanding moments of “teaching and learning with purpose” and we’re looking forward to the remainder of the year 🦫 #GroundhogDay

For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities.

Fifth grade students were asked to create a diorama of the major setting of the novel they read at home. Inside of this setting, they had to include five items that were important to the protagonist. Each item had to include a well written paragraph that explained the importance. This writing was accompanied by reposenses that also analyzed the theme of their novel.
In grade six, students analyzed their self read novel for the archetype of "The Hero's Journey" by Joseph Campell. For each stage, they identified and illustrated how their protagonist met the stage with proof from both their text and "The Hero's Journey."

Breaking bridges in STEM at Knox Trail MS!

It is so important for students to self-reflect and think on what skills they want to improve. It teaches us that everyone has to work at things and that we can achieve any goal we set for ourselves. Our Adjustment Counselor Mrs. Steiner will be working with them on their benchmark goals (smaller attainable steps) to achieve their overall goal. Resilience, persistence, teamwork, willingness to try and inner drive can all be learned through goal setting.

This #MLKDay, we feel this quote embodies how educators help kids grow to be their authentic selves: "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically... Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education."-Martin Luther King Jr.
