Scarlet Busse, David Prouty High School: Scarlet, a sophomore, takes great pride in her academics. She was especially interested in a Worcester State writing class that she took this year at David Prouty. Her professor was so impressed by Scarlet’s writing that she suggested she publish her work. Scarlet is also passionate about the criminal justice program and plans on pursuing this field along with continuing her writing.
Scarlet is a member of the Student Council and is one of the sophomore class officers. She was also chosen as "Panther of the Month" earlier in the school year. She is in her second year as a member of the girls' soccer team. She has been part of the track and field team in the past but decided to try a different outlet and began weightlifting outside of school recently.
When not busy with school activities Scarlett works part-time at a local pizza shop.
Alex Louis, South High Community School: Alex, a junior, is an incredibly gifted and focused scholar who has exceeded expectations in every subject he has taken this year. His intrinsic motivation and dedication to learning set him apart, allowing him to excel academically while also taking on challenges with enthusiasm. Most recently, he completed an impressive English project that demonstrated not only his creativity, artistic ability and critical thinking skills but also his ability to engage deeply with complex ideas. Beyond his academic success, Alex is a well-rounded student who thrives in his extracurricular activities. He is an important member of both the soccer team and the long-distance running team, demonstrating the same discipline and determination on the field as he does in the classroom. His ability to balance rigorous coursework with athletic commitments speaks to his strong work ethic and time management skills. Alex is a role model for his peers, always striving for excellence and inspiring those around him to do the same.
Madeline Trombly, South High Community School: Maddie is not only a diligent and hardworking student but also an incredible community member and leader. As a sophomore, Maddie is the co-editor-in-chief of the literary magazine The Apricot Journal , and she has worked tirelessly this year to expand the journal's reach to high schools throughout the city. Maddie has also worked to establish the "Apricot Seedlings" program where members of the high school journal staff visit WPS elementary schools to run workshops based on creative writing. Maddie has worked tirelessly this year to make connections for the journal across the city. Additionally, she is a member of the Goddard Scholars program, the Model UN and numerous other programs at South.
Edi Tufts, Sutton High School: Edi is a dedicated and driven sophomore, an invaluable member of our school community. She balances a rigorous academic schedule with her leadership roles in Robotics Team, Project 351 Alumni Mentor and the Massachusetts Association of Student Representatives. Beyond that, she showcases her creativity in the band and gives back through the Community Service Learning club. Edi is always willing to lend a hand, whether it's mentoring peers, organizing initiatives or representing student voices. One teacher said of her: "Edi is one of the funniest and brightest students in my class. She makes any group or project she is a part of exponentially better!" Her passion for learning and commitment to making a difference set her apart, and we can't wait to see the impact she will continue to make in the future here at Sutton High!
