Resources for Remote Learning During Our School Closure
Learning from Home

Welcome Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District Parents, Families and Students...  This webpage is intended to provide you with resources and ideas to continue learning during the District’s Covid-19 related closure.  While most of these resources are websites or other online tools, most can be accessed from a computer or a mobile phone.  For some sites you will need your username and password to log in and use the resources, others are freely accessible to everyone

The following are some quick guidelines for continuing to learn and grow as a scholar during these next few weeks.

READ:  Every student in the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District from preschool to 12th grade can benefit from reading or being read to at least 60 minutes every day.

WRITE: Take this opportunity to write, writing in response to what you are reading or learning or simply what you are experiencing. The following are a few examples of kinds of writing you might try.

Write in a diary or journal about your experience while schools are closed

  • Write poems
  • Create a comic strip or graphic novel
  • Write a letter to someone about this experience or about what you are reading

MATH: While school is not in session, students should be completing math activities for at least 60 minutes a day.  This does not have to be all at once.  It can be cumulative throughout the course of each day.  Math activities should include our district curriculum resources, math mind games, board games, and puzzles.

EXPLORE AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW:  Using the various resources on this webpage, explore a topic that is of interest to you and learn something new.  Learn how to solve a math problem that you’ve never tried, about an event in history, or a scientific phenomenon that interests you.

CREATE: Make something that reflects something you read, something you are learning, or about your experience during the school closure. This could be a craft, art, a webpage, a video, music, or anything you can think of that shares what you are learning and thinking about.

In addition to the resources on these pages, PBS has developed a website (WGBH Distance Learning) with lots of ideas for students during the school closure.

Using the resources on this website, we would like every student in the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District to spend 2-4 hours every day growing as a learner and scholar.

IMPORTANT:  Keep an eye on the school district’s webpage and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) accounts as well as our individual school pages and accounts for more specific instructional activities for each grade level - coming soon.

Learning from Home: Resources for Remote Learning During Our School Closure is a culmination of a great deal of work on the part of our district in an effort to support you as parents/families - in providing learning opportunities - during the closure of our schools.  Many more resources will be added in the days to come.  So, please check back often for updates as we make improvements to this page.  And as always, thank you for your continued support and partnership of the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District!

Sincerely Yours,

Paul S. Haughey, Ed.D.
